Moab is the new Vernal

December 24th – December 29th, 2017

Traditionally (as of a few years ago), we go on a week-ish long trip between Christmas and New Year’s to Vernal. But this year Dad decided since Moab would be colder than  normal and have unusual snow that we should go check it out! He claims he didn’t know that before switching locations. Yah. Right. But really… anyone that knows Dad, knows he will always seek the sun and warmth. He’s like a lizard.  So I guess we will believe him on this one. Regardless, we did have a great time. We learned that Moab is a totally different place in the winter. Most of the shops are closed and the sun only shines on half the town in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. These are life lessons we will carry with us always. The miracle of the trip was finding the ONE store open that Tarrin and Erica wanted. It was the one with the Mexican jacket thingys (we have yet to decide their official name). Tarrin was giddy! They found their much wished for jackets and added in a nice blanket. They then proceeded to convince Parker and Jayden to get them as well. Jackets and blankets all around. THEN it was time to convince Kody. This was no easy task. But eventually, he totally caved and got one. A hard fought win for Team Peer Pressure. After that we headed to get something to eat. That gave Tarrin time to ponder and plot how to get Dad and I on the Mexican Jacket Train. He must have figured the peer pressure angle wouldn’t work…so he went straight to a fundraising strategy. Let’s just say by the time the kids were done, Dad and I are sporting Mexican jackets as well. Thanks everyone. We love them and all y’all  (Parker phrase). 🙂

We had a nice relaxing trip in general. We got there Sunday night (Christmas Eve). We had celebrated Christmas that morning, but saved the Gifts of Fun for the real Christmas morning. Even found us a nice little Christmas tree that Charlie Brown would be proud of! Erica got a gel nail kit. Boys were less than impressed. But I’m excited to see her toe painting magic! The  boys each got a drone…. which then became the theme of the trip. Yep. Brian’s sneaky plan worked. He now had four mini Brian’s. He’s so proud. We did our usual tannerite shoot out. This starts out by going to the dollar store so everyone could pick out an item to send to the skies in a booming way. Always a highlight. But this year…. I think it was out shined by the drone taking out the balloon. Picture a bow and arrow shooting an apple off someone’s head. Replace the bow and arrow with a drone and the apple with a balloon. Add in a not-so-trusting Kody… and voila! It’s party time people!!! Here’s the Balloon Trickery Video for your viewing pleasure…

And here’s a bunch of pictures in random order (I can’t seem to convince this program that all the outside pictures belong together. Grrrrrr.)
