Deja Vu
JANUARY 5th, 2018
It seems like just 647 days ago that we were at the hospital with a kid getting his appendix out…. oh wait…. WE WERE!!!! Mark the date Kody. On October 14, 2019, you’re gonna be getting yours out. We have a new Rasmussen tradition for you to uphold.
The day was simple enough. I had been in Logan the day before… Thursday. Next morning I went to my usual spin class with Melody Hull. Afterwards, I got ready to head to my Visiting Teaching interview and then I was going to head down to Grandma and Grandpa Seamons’ for the day. But before I could get out the door to the interview, I got an innocent Snap Chat from Parker…..
Seemed simple enough, right? I called him on the way to the interview and asked a couple questions. I then announced he was probably having appendicitis. Of course he didn’t believe me. Ha ha… I told him if the pain moved down in the next couple hours I was sending him in to the doctor. Guess what? Pain moved down. And guess what! He went to the doctor without argument! Yah…. it must have REALLY been hurting! The doctor said that his mom was right (his mom is always right) and that he should trust his mom. Okay…. not exactly in those words, but I’m sure it was close. ๐ They sent him to the ER to have an ultrasound done.
I called Dad and left Grandma’s and Grandpa’s to meet him at home so we could head to Logan. Then I called all the Loganites. Not a one answered. But Tarrin called me back. Lucky dog! He won the prize to go and sit with Parker at the hospital for hours. Bored! If that ain’t brotherly love I don’t know what is! Other than that time Tarrin and Kody hugged. That was pretty special. But I digress.
Dad and I got to the hospital about the same time as Erica. Not that we were racing, but I’m pretty sure we got their first. But she found Tarrin first. So we’ll call it a tie. Tarrin headed back to work… something about a battery. I think he made it up during those mind-numbing hours at the hospital. Personally, I think he could have come up with a better excuse than that. But we’ll have to address that another time. Then the fun part began!!! The nurse dude tried to get another IV into Parker’s itty bitty little vein. Didn’t work. But boy it was a party watching the pain on Parker’s face. Remember that time you didn’t take the garbage out? Yah, we’ll call that one even now. hee heeย The nurse gave up and called up to OR to see what they wanted to do. Supposedly they wanted him right away. But after they heard about the vein drama, they said to wait until after shift change. Chickens!
Papa and Parley having a grand ol’ time watching Parker in pain.
And finally it was time for Parker to be wheeled up to the operating room where the doctor with his online degree was ready to go. We gathered in the hallway waiting room area. By this time Tarrin was back (I think he heard us talking about Costa Vida). So off Dad and Tarrin went to pick up the order. We had a delightful dinner right there in the hallway. Those that passed by were envious. You could tell.
The doctor found us and told us Parker was out of surgery and that all went well. They couldn’t find his appendix in the ultrasound or the CT Scan…. But no one had the heart to tell him. So I think the doctor just used pictures from the last patient. But it seemed convincing enough so we’ll let them charge us thousands of dollars for the cool scars Parker will have. Doctor was awesome! He was nice enough not to show me those pictures since I still had some Costa Vida to finish eating. He said Parker would come out of recovery in about 20 minutes. He might be a great doctor and all…. but his time estimating skills are horrible!
But that waiting span gave Kody time to join the hub-bub. He also brought drugs. Oh, and Parker’s prescriptions. It’s great to have people in high places. ๐ย Parker FINALLY came out of recovery and back to the harsh realities of the hospital. Now this is where I wish I had a photo. He looked pretty hammered. Poor guy. By this time Parley was done with this party! So Tarrin and Erica took him home to get him fed and into bed (by this time it was 8:30 I think). The doctor said with it being as late as it was that Parker was fine to spend the night. Which is what he did. So out of the loving concern for his sleep… we left him to get some Z’s. He slept peacefully (as much as one can with all the bells and whistles at the hospital… and visiting friends from midnight to 3am). Dad and I were back at the hospital bright and early at 9am. Don’t judge. We’re old. He was ready to go so he got dressed and listened to the bazillion instructions from the nurse. We also enjoyed a nice story from the nurse about the bad luck that room is. Like…. really bad luck. Wow! What every parent wants to hear. :/
We stopped off to get Parker breakfast to save him from hospital food. He picked McDonald’s. Umm…. not we sure we saved him from anything. ๐ Then we got him home and tucked in as snug as a bug on Kody’s couch. And seriously, within a few minutes he was out! He slept for several hours.
There was a bad snow storm already making it’s presence so we decided we better get going. We left Parker in the very capable hands of his brothers. Okay, we’re KIDDING! We left him with Erica who would actually remember there was a recovering patient in their midst. She did a good job because he’s doing well and lived to tell the tale…. well…. lived to read the tale. So now we wait for the next appendix to make it’s exiting debut. Lucky Kody.

I think he was faking it the entire time! ๐
