Toroweap Overlook – Grand Canyon
Early in the morning on May 12th, 2017, Hamid, Kristy, Mom and I left Hurricane, UT riding our RZRs. Our lunch destination was the Bar 10 Ranch, a mere 75 mile ride, all on dirt roads. No problem… right? Well, we drove and drove and drove. It felt like forever. We needed to be there for lunch at around 12:30 or we wouldn’t get lunch. And we had already pre-paid. And it was expensive!
So we arrived at just after 1:00 and let me tell you, it is out in the middle of NOWHERE! Unfortunately, we got there just after two small planes, carrying a bunch of tourists, landed on their small airstrip. It’s interesting that rush hour in the middle of nowhere is still busy. 🙁 So we had to wait for about 30 minutes to get our lunch.
After we ate, we topped off our gas and continued our journey to Toroweap Overlook, 46 miles away.
We finally arrived much later than I had expected… because it was a LONG WAYS!!! But the wait and long ride was worth it. The view was SPECTACULAR!
It was eerie walking/crawling up to a cliff that you know is 2,000 feet down! Here is mom and Kristy being brave.
I couldn’t get down to the ledge they were on and Hamid was just chicken. But it was AWESOME!
After spending a couple hours in total awe, we finally began the 86ish mile ride back to Hurricane. It was also fun because before it got dark, there were stretches of the road where we were going 60 MPH for miles at a time. It was a good road and we made good time but it still took us until 10:30 pm to get back to Hurricane. In total, we rode over 210 miles that day! It was a LONG but AWESOME day spent with good friends!
